The Woods Charter Brain Club was awarded a $1000 grant from our regional Society for Neuroscience chapter to purchase experimental supplies, invite speakers, or go on field trips this year. Our students have been asked to consider setting up a booth at Brain Awareness Week, coinciding with NC DNA Day to teach other elementary and middle school students about brain science. We have 17 participating students, including students from every grade 8-12. We would especially like to thank Deirdre Sackett and colleagues from the UNC FUSE organization, who have been organizing lessons for our Monday night meetings and who helped us to secure a grant for the club. Our club is the first of its kind in our region and the goal is to challenge other schools to start clubs as well and join us next year in a local Brain Bee competition, sponsored by the Society for Neuroscience.
Welcome to Woods!
Learning takes many forms and happens inside and outside of our classrooms and school building. See what you think!
