Woods Charter School junior Isabel Pearce joins Olympic and World Cup champions Cindy Parlow Cone and Danielle Slaton and their elite U18 soccer club on a journey to India to play at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi as part of the International Football Leadership Summit for Girls. Supported by Goals for Girls, the event connects and empowers girls from around the world, coaching them in leadership and teamwork on and off the field.
“The mission at Goals for Girls USA is to use soccer to teach young women life skills on how to be agents of change, in their own lives and in their communities,” according to Bikram Singh Thockchom, President of AMMA Football Club (Andro - Manipur). The Goals for Girls website quotes Nelson Mandela: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they can understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair.” (www.goalsforgirls.org)
Isabel’s outstanding soccer record includes her leadership as team captain on the WCS Varsity team and as two-time All-Conference, All-Region and 1A All-State player. She won the NCAC Conference Player of the Year as a freshman and led the conference and the state in points and goals scored in 2015.
WCS soccer coach Graeme Stewart praises Isabel as “ a team leader who works hard to give her best but remains humble and grounded through all of her stellar achievements.”
